I'm always looking for new books to read. I love just about any fiction book out there. This book popped up on my 'recommended for you' list and for the price, I thought I'd give it a whirl. The book does well at sucking you in from the get-go. It did seem to drag for a while. We meet Grace when she's at a cross roads in her life. She's always been a wall flower because of the 'buzzing' in her head that she gets from being an empath. She goes out for a night on the town and ends up seeing her best friend attacked by a monster. She witnesses twin men saving her friend and when they try to erase her memory, they find her memory can't be erased. So they take her home with them until they can figure out what to do with her.
The Guardian leader, Canaan doesn't meet Grace until quite a few chapters into the book. I felt like the author dragged that out a bit. Once they did meet however, it got good! The sparks between Grace and Canaan are immediate. They seem to fit well together. Grace with her calm ability to bring the House to heed. And Canaan with his authority and power.
Through all this, there is a new demon that has crossed over into the human realm, with a little help from a witch. We soon find out that Grace isn't what she seems when she's able to actually 'see' the demons for what they are. She isn't just a meek human throwing her lot in with a bunch of Guardians. She actually has so much more to give.
I loved reading the banter between the twins and Grace. Throw Uncle Otto in there and it made for some laugh-out-loud moments. I would have loved to give this book 5 stars but I feel like it was missing something. The beginning seemed to drag and the ending was abrupt. After all the build up for the final battle, it seemed to just end. I realize the author was leaving something things unresolved for the subsequent books but I also felt like the final battle should have been a little longer.
Even with the so-so ending, I still really enjoyed this book and I will continue with the books in the series.

Guardian Grace Guardians of the Race Book 1 edition by Jacqueline Rhoades Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
A great beginning to this series with wonderful characters full of laughter and a little heartbreak. At first I was a little loss but it didn’t take long to find me. The author gives you a wonderful plot that pulls you in and takes you way as one group gives everything they have to fight demons and be who they are. Grace stays pretty much to herself and the one true friend she has. If she is in a crowd her head feels like it is going to explode she finds it is easier if she just stays in the shadows. That all changes one night when she is at a club a stranger takes her friend out back. Grace sees more than a stranger but a monster as she goes to help her friend she doesn’t believe her eyes and what they are telling her. What happens next will make you want to cry, scream, laugh and make you want to jump in and help Grace and her friend all at the same time.
Holly Adams does a great job of narration it did take me a little time to get into her since she has done some of the Wolver audios I kind of kept her voice for them. Once I got over that and let the story take me way I was pulled in to this wonderful plot and all the supernaturals. Her voice is always a pleasure to listen to, her tones are nice and even with wonderful emotions, there are no background noises just clean easy listening. Her male voices are as wonderful as her female. She gives you a strong powerful listen as she adds humor and laughter to her voice. It is always a pleasure listening to this narrator.
I loved the characters the twins will pull you in and keep you laughing at their pranks. The uncle is a delight once he gets over wanting your blood. Canaan is something else I just love him. Grace is a delight with her sense of humor. Both are very strong willed and bullhead. The author pulls you in with mixture of comedy, drama, and romance that will touch your heart, make you laugh and at times want to hit some heads together. This author puts a new twist on a story that is as old as times. She gives you entertainment like you have never seen it. I own this whole series but I am torn whether to read it or wait for the audios. Both are very entertaining. This is an author you do not want to miss each of her series are wonderful, different filled with humor, romance along with outstanding characters. I can highly recommend any book she writes I own most of them. I hope you pick up this along with the other books she writes you won’t be disappointed.
I read this book several years ago but the series is so good that I am re-reading the series in anticipation of reading book #5. Grace is a woman who feels emotions of other people in her head. It causes her to have severe headaches and some anxiety, so as a consequence she avoids people, even working in jobs that allow her to work alone. Her one friend drags her to a bar and there Grace notices two very hot twin men. But her friend cannot see them. Grace's friend is attacked by something that is not human, and Grace is taken by the twins to a safe haven. The safe haven is owned by Caanon, a huge, gruff not quite human man who is leader of his house of Guardians. The Guardians protect the human race from demons. But the Guardians are not human, and Caanon and his house of Guardians are being threatened by Caanon's own people. And what is Grace? She does not appear to be quite human herself, and Caanon's people do not want her in his house. Great concept and storyline. And a great romance!!! I loved the characters in this book. Grace has a backbone and tells the huge scary men what to do. The twins are fun and polar opposites, one being playful and one being serious (somewhat), Caanon is a sticker for tradition, and you have other people with tragic pasts (scarred emotionally and physically). This book is a page turner!
